The Groomsmen Gift Report
How many groomsmen grooms really have, what they spend on each gift, when they order, and whether the best man gets something bigger. Every number comes from our own orders, January 2021 to September 2026.
Most advice about groomsmen gifts is etiquette passed from one wedding site to the next. We wanted to see what grooms actually do, so we went through every Groovy Groomsmen order from January 2021 to September 2026 and pulled out the patterns. The headline is reassuring. Grooms keep it simple and treat the whole party the same. What makes the gift feel thoughtful is the name on it, not the price.
Party size
The median wedding party in our orders is five, counting the best man. Half of grooms buy for four or fewer, four in ten buy for five to seven, and about one in ten buy for eight or more.
Groomsmen and best man gifts per order
Based on 13,763 orders where each gift named the recipient’s role and the order covered at least two groomsmen or best man gifts. Party size is the number of those gifts of the same product in one order.
94% of those orders gave every groomsman and the best man the same gift. Matching gifts look good in photos and keep anyone from comparing.
Spending
The typical groomsman gift in our orders costs $39.99. Half of orders land between $25 and $65 a gift, and 85% come in under $75. Very few grooms in our orders spend $100 or more per person.
List price of one gift, per order
Based on 37,684 orders for three or more of the same personalized gift. Prices are list prices before any discount.
The more people a groom is buying for, the less each gift tends to cost, but the total still climbs. This table uses a broader set of orders than the party-size chart above: any order with three or more of the same personalized gift, whether or not each gift named the recipient’s role. A groom buying for three or four typically spends about $180 on the set, and one buying for nine to eleven spends about $350.
| Gifts in the order | Typical price per gift | Typical total | Orders |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 to 4 gifts | $44.99 | $180 | 11,376 |
| 5 to 6 gifts | $44.99 | $240 | 12,859 |
| 7 to 8 gifts | $39.99 | $280 | 7,586 |
| 9 to 11 gifts | $34.99 | $350 | 4,015 |
| 12 or more gifts | $15.00 | $278 | 1,848 |
Medians from the same 37,684 orders. The total is the price per gift multiplied by the number of gifts of that product in the order.

The best man
Convention says the best man should get something bigger. In practice almost nobody does it. In 11,374 of our orders that covered both roles, 97% gave the best man the exact same gift as the groomsmen, and 93% spent exactly the same on him. Grooms who want his gift to stand out make it more personal, with his role or a line only he will understand, rather than more expensive. We break that down in best man gift vs groomsmen gift.
The rest of the wedding party
When couples buy for other roles in the same order as the groomsmen, they usually give the same gift at the same price. Ring bearers are the one clear exception, since a third of them get something less expensive than the groomsmen.
| Role | Same price as the groomsmen | Less expensive | Orders |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ushers | 90% | 8% | 412 |
| Officiant | 93% | 3% | 448 |
| Fathers | 85% | 8% | 568 |
| Ring bearer | 62% | 33% | 105 |
Orders that included gifts for that role and for groomsmen together. Compares the average list price of each role’s gifts within the same order. The median order with usher gifts covered 2 ushers (552 orders). For what the job involves, see what an usher does at a wedding.
Timing
Grooms order thank-you gifts a median of 66 days before the wedding. Almost three in ten wait until the final month, which is fine as long as you check the ship date on the product page. Proposal boxes are a different story. Grooms order those a median of about nine months ahead, because the box is how they ask the guys in the first place.
Days between order and wedding, thank-you gifts
Based on 18,489 orders that included a wedding date and no proposal product. Proposal box figure from 975 orders (median 275 days).
Grooms place the most orders in August (12% of the year) and the fewest in November and December (about 4% each), which tracks the fall wedding peak we see below.
Share of wedding party orders by month, 2022 to 2025. Partial years 2021 and 2026 are excluded so no month is overcounted.
Wedding season
Fall is peak season in our data. October accounts for 17% of weddings and September for 15%, followed by June and May. January and February are the quietest months.
Share of weddings by month
Based on 18,278 thank-you gift orders with a wedding date between 2021 and 2026.
Saturday is the default. 65% of weddings in our orders fall on a Saturday, 18% on a Friday and 10% on a Sunday. Weekday weddings together make up under 7%.
What grooms choose
Over the last two years the Build Your Own Groomsmen Box accounted for about one in six of our wedding party orders. The box lets a groom choose a few engraved pieces for each guy and hand them over in one keepsake box. Other favorites with wedding parties include:

Methodology
We exported every Groovy Groomsmen order from January 1, 2021 to September 11, 2026 and removed cancelled orders, leaving 67,931 orders. Customers tell us who each gift is for when they personalize it, sometimes in a dedicated role field and sometimes inside the personalization text, and we read both. Wedding dates come from the same personalization fields.
Each section uses the group of orders that can actually answer its question, and each chart names that group and its size. Prices are list prices before discounts. Medians are used instead of averages so a few very large orders do not skew the picture. This is what our customers did, which is not the same as every wedding in the country, so treat it as a strong signal rather than a national census.
